Es wird getan.

On Monday Morning, I did it. After spending the latter part of last week running all over campus to procure the necessary forms and transcripts and spending part of Saturday working on my resume, I submitted the application internship that I have been mentioning often on Facebook and Twitter quite a bit over the course of the past couple of weeks.

I have to admit that I’m still nervous and excited though. The internship is with the same Governmental Agency I worked with last summer. The only difference is that instead of complaining about the traffic in and around D.C., I’ll be blogging and working live and direct from Germany for eight weeks. I don’t think that I’m nervous about having the job, I think I’m nervous about the fact that the internship is in Europe. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always wanted to travel and If selected, I’ll use the opportunity to my advantage. I’m still nervous about travelling away from my family and friends for that long period of time. The summer before last when I went to Atlanta for three months, I felt the same way I felt now. As soon as I got there, everything was cool and I actually didn’t want to come back to Baltimore when it was time to.

Who am I kidding. I already know that I have it in the bag. :)

I asked when I would hear back from the job to see if I did get the internship. I was told not to expect a response back until early February 2010.

Keep It In Order.

Go to class. Study. Go to work. Go to the Yearbook Office and pick up your assignments. Go to the E-Board Meeting. Go to that forum. Go to that General Body Meeting. Take notes. Finish this project. Go to that forum. Write Reports. Get this Article in, etc..

How hard was it for you to keep your priorities in order while you were in college?

Last semester, In my attempt to broaden my social horizons, it became more than evident to me that I started to lose focus on my initial priorities and goals. The energy I initially devoted to studying and completing schoolwork was now being funneled to extracurricular activities and work. Homework and studying took a backseat to working a temporarily full-time job, completing assignments for Yearbook and the various other things I was involved in last semester.

As much as I wanted to maintain everything and stick with everything through to completion, I couldn’t.  Upon looking at my grades at the end of the semester, I ended up walking away from all but one of my extracurricular activities in addition to not coming into work full-time anymore.

Now that I’ve refocused on the important things, let’s see how it works out for me this semester.

As I suspected would happen, I had to drastically alter my gym time once school started. While working, I got into the routine of going to the gym 5 days a week. While there, I would lift and do 4+ miles of cardio. Everything was going well, and then as soon as school started, that schedule went out the window. Read more…

Nervous Energy

By now, I’m almost 100% certain that unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or so, you already know that the economy is crap right now.

As I look around and keep in touch with a few of my friends that graduated Spring, 2008 (the semester  I was SUPPOSED to graduate); I’ve noticed that a couple of them are STILL not having any luck finding full time employment almost one year after graduating from college. I’m partially upset that I didn’t graduate on time and I felt some type of way seeing my friends off while I remained at Morgan State. Be that as it may, I am still happy that I’m in school because for the most part, I’m shielded from the lack of employment opportunities that many of my friends are currently facing.

Spring Break.

Today is day 1 of my 5 day stint away from Morgan State University. Ok, so maybe that’s not 100% true. I have to head back on campus sometime this week to get some work done for Yearbook. I’ve found that I’m usually 1 Billion % more productive when I’m on campus, compared to when I’m home.

Now that I think back over my now 5 years in college, I’ve never actually gone on “Spring Break”. I either sat at home and chilled, or worked the entire time. This year, I’ll be working, studying and doing other things over the course of the next 4 days.

Sounds exciting, no?

At this point, I’ll take any type of break away from school that I can get. Even if it is only in a physical sense.

A Conversation.

Me: “Yo, you still competing in the ‘Do You Know Your Best Friend Contest’  with me tonight?”

Best Friend (or so I thought) A: “Uh, nah. Me and my girl are gonna chill today. Besides, I don’t know you well enough!

WTF?! I’ve been scratching my head about the last line of  the above conversation for a week now. (And yes, that was a real conversation).

How can you be quote-en-quote Best Friends or better yet, “brothers” with someone that you claim you barely know? Read more…

Beyond Busy.

That’s what I’ve been since school started. I know this is only the 8th entry that I’ve posted this month, but everything’s been going at a fast pace! Who would have honestly thought that school, extracurriculars AND working almost full time would actually keep one busy?

Next month, I’ll at least attempt to blog twice once a week (we’ll see how that goes).

Anyways, here’s what’s been going on with your boy brran1 since school started. Read more…
