Heavy Rotation XIX: The ‘Jackson Family’ Edition

1

Outside of all of the legal woes, drama and other issues that has plagued the First Family of Soul, there is no denying the fact that they are most likely one of the most talented families of color in the public eye. Ever since Michael’s passing a few months ago, I’ve been checking out some of the music of the Jackson Siblings (outside of the former and Janet) even LaToya and I’m impressed with what I’ve found. Here’s what I’ve been listening to as of late. Read more…

(Maxwell on the stage, Verizon Center, Washington, D.C. 10/2/2009)

I’m gonna try to keep all of my thoughts together for this Concert Review, but just let me tell y’all up front that this concert was GOOD!

After refusing to pay an astronomical amount for parking, Best Friend N and I decided to park and ride the Metro, since the Gallery Place/Chinatown Station stops directly underneath the Verizon Center. We arrived at the Verizon Center at about 7 pm (which was a shock to me b/c I’m usually running on CP Time), and after waiting for Best Friend N to try to keep up with me in her heels, we made it to our seats shortly afterwards. Later on this evening, Best Friend N and I will make our way down to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. to watch Common, Chrisette Michele, and Maxwell perform. It will be my first time seeing all three of them live and I’m definitely looking forward to the show.

Back in July of last year, I initially posted this blog. However, since Maxwell has come out with a new album full of bangers AND because of the fact that I’m going to see him in concert tonight, why not update the list? Read more…

For those of you that are unaware, my iBook G4 bit the dust back in May. Since, that’s the only place I stored my music (read: No backups), I haven’t updated my iPod since then. I’ll hopefully have a new Macbook in January, but until then, I’ll have to rely on the  4,000+ tracks I currently in my possession. Here’s what I’ve been listening to as of late:

What are Eric Roberson’s Top 15 Tracks?

1

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if many people didn’t know about Eric Roberson. I found out about him last summer while on my internship down in Atlanta. While out and about, I heard may people talk about him and his live shows and I heard nothing less than positive reviews of his work. While chilling at Georgia Tech one day, I was listening to my Dwele station on Last.fm and the track playing made me stop what I was doing and pay attention. It was Erro’s track “We Can’t Pretend”. At the time, I was going through a situation that paralleled Erro’s lyrics. After listening to a few more tracks, I ended up purchasing his entire iTunes catalog a few days later.

Unfortunately, I have yet to hear Erro’s latest release ‘Music Fan First’ so I will not be including any tracks from that album.

Without further ado, here are (in my opinion, of course) Eric Roberson’s Top 15 Tracks:

erykah-badu

Some people know her as Erykah. Some people know her as FatBellyBella. Either way, this woman and her music have been a driving force in Black music for well over a decade now. Her ability to mix different genres of music while still keeping her own sound has attracted new fans and kept long time fans enthralled.

Here are (in my opinion, of course) Erykah Badu’s Top 15 Tracks: Read more…

I haven’t blogged in awhile. I guess y’all have noticed that right?

I haven’t really been feeling blogging too tough since Summer Break started. It seems as if everytime i get close enough to computer to blog, it totally escapes my mind OR I couldn’t even begin to recall how to gather my thoughts into a cohesive series of paragraphs.

Maybe the fact that i’m in front of the computer the majority of the day at work doesn’t help either?

Anyways, here goes: Read more…
