Responsibilities: Engineering interns, under direct supervision will perform elementary engineering work in the field and/or office. The work may be in one or more of the following engineering areas: development, design, specifications, estimating, construction, inspection, operations, maintenance and/or related work. Engineering interns may review drawings, approve contractor payments, coordinate transit response to emergencies affecting service and coordinate adjacent construction work which may directly affect Transit facilities.

Exper. & Educ.: 1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, or closely related engineering field from an accredited college; or 2. One year of full-time paid experience in civil engineering work and either a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License or a valid New York State Certificate as an Intern Engineer: Candidates who have (1) a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering or closely related engineering field issued upon completion of a course of study approved by the engineers’ Council for Professional Development; (2) possess either a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License or a valid New York State Cerfiticate as an Intern Engineer and one year of full-time paid experience in civil engineering work will not be required to take the written test. Candidates with a baccalaureate degree from a school that is not approved by the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development, or with a degree in civil engineering technology must take the written test.

Desired Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, knowledge of current construction practices and computer aided design. Strong analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be organized, detail-oriented and experienced with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Access, etc. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    And that job only better will be around when you graduate. At least two years away from graduating you know what you want to do. I was still changing my major every other semester.

    see at least you know what you want to do. I’m about to graduate this semster and still kinda dont know what area i want to focus on. Their will be sooo many more opportunities! Just think with a new pres the economy cant do anything but go up:-)
