So, my first two days of classes are over, and at this point, I’ve gone to all of my classes once. It feels wierd being a Super Senior. But I’m pretty sure I’ll get over that feeling in a few days.
I was walking around campus today (which is something I don’t do often) and I noticed some things:
1. There are alot of freshmen.
2. They’re trying to bring the 80’s back with full force.
I mean, I thought that whole ‘bring back the 80’s’ trend died out in ’06? As I was walking to the bookstore today, this dude walked past me sporting a Hi-Top fade, a Swish-Swish Jacket (idk the actual name of it, but that’s the sound the material makes) and I believe he had on LA Gears. WTF? I had to do a double take when I saw that, because I didn’t believe what I was seeing at first. And then, I saw this girl walk past rockin a dookie chain with her name on a platter. No lie.
Back when I was a freshman in ’04, I tried to blend in with the upperclassmen. I don’t know if it really worked, but I tried my hardest not to stick out like a sore thumb. Now, at the ripe old age of 21 (LOL), I see these impressionable youngins here, and I hope the majority of them make it through, MSU is a place that’ll drive you insane if you let it. Hell, there have been time when I’ve wanted to blow up Montebello.
I signed up for my Humanties requirement, and guess what it turned out to be? Female Writing in the African Diaspora. Not that I have a problem with that, but can the brothers get some love? We have some novels to read and I’m really interested in digging into Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon. I heard that was a good book.
Calculus 3 is upon me and for the first day (despite showing up 15 minutes late), I understood what took place. I just need to focus and form a study group so that I can get an A out of the class.
I decided to take my Calc 2 professor over again for Differential Equations. Now I know D.E. is a branch off of Calc 2, but if you asked me what it was exactly, I sure as hell wouldn’t be able to tell you.
And last but not least, Engineering Mechanics. I know alot of people that have dropped this class the first few weeks because the work load is supposedly unbearable. At Morgan, I believe it’s a graduation requirement for ALL engineering majors, so I’m definitely gonna have to link up with some classmates to form a study group. I definitely do better studying with people, than I do alone. I get distracted WAY to easily. The professor seems cool, but he talks very softly so it’s kinda sorta like you have to strain to hear him speak. I sit in the second row and you’d think with the class only having 8 people in it, it wouldn’t be all that bad right? Ask me that question about a week or two before midterms.
Random Thought of the Moment: “Why are there so many editions of the same textbook, and which one are we using at Morgan???”
The Song of the Moment: “Memory Lane” by Minnie Ripperton
If you feel old now, I’ll tell you it all goes downhill from here. The kids just keep looking/getting younger and younger. And there are so many editions of the same textbook so that the publishers can make more money off of you.
too funny
a swish swish and LA GEARS????!!! OMG! that went out with slouch socks! i’mma need them to take that shit back in time and leave it! LA Gears came out when?? early 90’s? that was back in the plastic blue, yellow, and orange fisher price skates days! SMH so many memories.. we are old!
on the other hand, i would rock the dookie chain.. LOL you know me Brran, why not a big ass chain to go with my big ass earrings?
LMAO I felt the same way!!! Im like dag either these kids look really young or I’m really old. i didnt think id feel old at 21!!! lol
Wow like the kids is takin it a little to far with 80s gear. cant get into it. LA gears never need to make a come back tho lol
Books are ridiculous. Im surprised all my books for the semster came up to a lil under 200.
I hope u do well in all ur classes!!
yeah that 80’s mess is soooo NOT cute to me… we got dudes in NY walking around with the hi-low with half of it died blond… stone wash jeans… crazy
so i guess I’m getting old too
Try being 23 in a lecture full of 18 years olds. Spent all of fall semester 2003 completely over it.
a) Song of Solomon rocks big time.
b) Old? When I went back for my BEd I was 28…with classes of 18-21 yr olds. Now I’m 40 in classes of 24-50 yr olds.
c) I’ve now had the pleasure of seeing that 80s thing at least 4 times since then…
d) So ya, old? It’s all relative 😉
Maaaaaan I took Calc I bout 4 times and never got higher than a D. Kinda killed my dream of being an engineer. lol
good luck this semester. and um…start snapping pics of those lame @$$ freshmen! put ’em on blast!
