Health.

Usually, since I seem pretty healthy, I tend not to worry about my health. That thankfully changed in June. Since I’ll be turning 23 in December, I figured I’d age out of Ma Dukes’ Insurance so I scheduled a Dentist exam, my almost Yearly Doctor’s Visit and I also scheduled an Eye Exam since I haven’t had one since I was 11 or 12.

A few months back in one of my various posts on the Random things that have happened, I mentioned Crest Pro-Health and the various issues that many people have been experiencing with their problems via a link to the product’s page on Amazon.com. I alluded to, but never actually mentioned the damage that the product did to my teeth.  Let’s just say that when I went to the Dentist, in addition to the usual cleaning that takes place, he brought out the Sandpaper and an electric shaver to get the stains off my teeth (yes they were THAT BAD).  Thankfully, the stains are all gone and now I can get back to semi-smiling at people…or not.

About two weeks later, I had my eye exam. After a 20 minute wait in a crowded waiting area, I stepped into the room where they do the preliminary exams. This is what happened:

Me: *sits down in front of eye scanner-blinker machine*

Staff Lady Scanner Person: “Sir, can you open your eyes wider please?”

Me: Sure. *Opens Eyes wider, or so I think*.

S.L.S.P.: “Um, sir, I’m sorry. Can you open your eyes wider?”

Me: “I just did. If I try to open them any wider, my eyes will be bulging out of my head like the lady on Guinness Book of Records.” *grabs eyes with index fingers and pushes top lid back*

S.L.S.P.: “Thank you, sir.”

It isn’t my fault my eyes are permanently semi closed. You all would be suprised at how often people stare at me trying to see if my eyes are open on a regular basis. Anyways, after the preliminary exam and another hour long wait, I go back for the actual Eye Exam and the during the course of the eye exam, the doctor tells me to practice safe sex, not to have kids and a whole bunch of other stuff. I was unaware of the fact that I could get a girl pregnant by staring at her (smh).

At the end of the exam, the Doctor told me that my vision was ok aside from the fact that I have Astigmatism. Because of this, I have to wear glasses. At first I hated them, but now after a few positive comments from the ladies they aren’t so bad. I’ve actually gotten used to wearing them.

The day after the Dentist Appointment, I had my Semi-Yearly checkup. Everything went well and I didn’t flinch when I had to have blood drawn. I called my doctor to check on the results of my bloodwork last Thursday and he told me that he wants to run more bloodwork because I have Elevated Liver Enzymes. After hanging up I immediately went to Google to find out what ‘Elevated Liver Ezymes’ was and I just sat there blinking at my cell phone screen. In addtion to Obesity being one of the 30+ causes of Elevated Liver Enzymes, another thing that runs through my family was on the list. Lupus. As I read up on Lupus, I noticed I have or currently do suffer from many of the symptoms such as headaches and fatigue.

I called Ma Dukes and my closest friends and told them about it. Everyone basically told me to not worry about it and to not stress myself out with anything until the doctor gives the word. I told them that I was convinced that gas was the reason for the Elevated Liver Enzymes and that I wasn’t worried about anything (although I really am).

I go in for the extra bloodwork on Monday.  I’m sure everything will be ok but there’s always a chance…

You’re going to be just fine. But I hope this is the shake up you might need to make a PERMANENT lifestyle change. We’re killing ourselves slowly and it’s crazy because we are TRULY in complete control of what we put in our mouths.

If we do better…we’ll be better.

    I promise.

  2. I should preface this with, we’ve talked enough on twitter and AIM that you know the things I say aren’t meant to be hurtful (well not all the time)with that being said…

I don’t believe in telling people everything will be ok. In my world that’s unrealistic but what I am sure of is that whatever the results just accept them and take it all in stride and believe that there is nothing you can’t overcome. belief in one’s self is a big thing for me and of course if your ever feeling frustrated you can hit me up and curse and scream .

Quite frankly I enjoy having people curse and scream at me because sometimes I think I’m the only one that isn’t politically correct.

Like Monnie said, everything is gonna be just fine. Better to be on the safe side than leave things to chance.

I highly recommend you apply for your own health insurance policy and get it in place before you are dropped by your parents…NOW. These situations will be deemed as a pre-existing condition and u
you will not be able to get insurance. I speak from experience.
